1875-S $20 Liberty PCGS MS63

I felt like Gollum for a hot minute when it was time to put her back — I had something of a “my precious” moment after I’d had this coin in hand.
This 1875-S $20 Lib has survived for 139 years as choice uncirculated, a feat that not many of her sisters can claim. Only a relative handful of the 1.2 million struck managed to survive circulation, with prices jumping substantially starting at AU58.
This coin is one of 25 graded by PCGS & NGC in 63, and between the two services there are only 7 graded higher.
… can you blame me?
Love the Gollum reference! (You should see me and my Howland Wood medals sometime, though I think my voice is closer to Yoda’s… “Mine!…Mine!”)
